Need advice on new NAS file-sharing setup

My 2TB Buffalo NAS has recently died on me, but while searching for a new one I've found myself getting hopelessly confused. Tech seems to have advanced so much in just the last couple of years and I have no clue what many of the technical specifications mean anymore!
Ideally I want a set up where I can:
- Access any file (photos/music/movies) wirelessly from anywhere in the house,
- Have a central iTunes location including playlists, so I could update playlists from either my PC or laptop
- Have a fast connection between my TV and the NAS for streaming (the WDTV box that I use is incredibly slow so I may upgrade to a smart TV),
- Have either a second NAS or a second drive in a connected bay that will do automatic backups.
Can anyone offer any advice about what I should be looking for, or recommend some good models that will achieve the above goals?
