It isn't just a small dog thing either. My six month old can happily ignore what is in his bowl, holding out for something better.

Gitdog has his moments - he specialises in refusing to eat and clanking his bowl very loudly in disgust when he's only been given his kibble. Doesn't get him anywhere, but he does have to give it a go once in a while.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    Thank you for the replies.

I understand that in my first post calling her a pup it maybe seems that I baby her but I can honestly say I don't, she is just my youngest, she is not a typical chi at all and definitely not a lap dog.

I think that's why it concerns me as she is very active and keeps up with my German shepherd when out walking 4 times daily yet seems to eat so very little.

She would eat cold meat all day if I let her but too much upsets her tum.

Some good suggestions here and I'm going to try and tempt her into the Royal canin by mixing with a small amount of wet food, she really loves ceasar so I'm hoping mixing with a small amount won't upset her.

ETA she was spayed at 6 months.

I'm going to try and tempt her

But that is what you have been doing up until now and it hasn't worked.

I haven't tried mixing the dry kibble with wet food as it gives her the runs I've only mixed with a little water.

As per sensible Sarah's advice I'm going to try mixing with a third wet food and see if she can handle that.

She's ate her dinner tonight that way but just a case of waiting to see if she gets the runs.

My vet keeps a stock of healthy chew sticks for rewards for dogs. Every one of my dogs has refused point blank to eat them - even my old cross-breed mutt who would eat anything in the world, edible or not!

Ha - would be interesting to see if mine would take the bait then :) She's never rejected anything even slightly resembling food or even anything that once contained food so far in the last 4 years so I reckon she'd give those nasty chews a go :rotfl:

OP I'm glad you've gotten her to eat something today. Hopefully she'll be ok and not get an upset tummy - but you can always reduce the amount of wet to start off with and work up to larger amounts once she's a little more used to it. Can be so frustrating though when you can't find a food that suits. Took me nearly 2 years of trial and error to get my dog onto a food that didn't give her the runs.

My mum's chihuahua is a fussy little sod too, she gives him sliced meat 'because that's all he will eat' and some kibble.

When he stays with me he gets his kibble and the same wet food as my yorkie, Sainsbury's delicious collection chicken or beef pate, it's high meat content and grain free, he eats every scrap of it!
