Marmalade's Cars for Young Drivers Scheme - good value? (Advice needed)

I was looking at a few "just add fuel" schemes for 18 year olds looking to get their first car and came across Marmalades scheme for young drivers.

You pay a fixed monthly amount and receive a new car with insurance included in the price for the first year. The monthly payments are similar to what I would be paying out monthly for insurance alone as a young driver on an older car.

Whilst it would be more expensive after the first year as you would presumably be paying out for the car monthly and also insuring seperately, the only downsides I can find are that the included insurance has a mileage restriction of 8000 miles.

Just wondering if anyone has used the scheme, or can see any major downsides to it versus buying an older car and insuring it seperately.

Cheers.

Fiat have a similar deal with the 500 here https://www.fiat500withinsurance.co.uk/

Insurance premium fixed for 3 years by the looks of it.

I've heard adverts for Corsa's with a similar deal as well.

How long is the agreement? With your own car, the first year is expensive because of lack of NCB, but drops steeply after that unless they crash. Worth checking what happens to payments in the event of a claim or speeding fine. Do you get a NCB at the end of the agreement?
  • The length of the agreement is 4 years, with insurance only being included in the first year. As far as I can tell you receive no claims bonus after the first year of being on the included insurance, which would make insuring from the second year onwards cheaper.
