I have just received my vehicle tax reminder, for the vehicle tax to start on 1st April.
Now, if there are changes to the rate of vehicle tax in the budget, be it lowered or raised would i have to pay the extra, or indeed be able to claim back any reduction, if i renew now?

regards
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

No, it will only effect cars registered after 1 April 2017.

My big 4x4's tax is due at the end of March each year. I renew before the budget each year, just in case.

I only save small amounts of money though.

I think you're referring to the changes already announced. There's nothing to stop the Chancellor making changes for existing vehicles.

And any changes would take effect at the date specified when the change was announced. This would usually be from the next day at the earliest.

I have taxed my vehicle on the night of the budget and got in before midnight to get it as the older/lower rate.

Reminds me of an old guy filling cans in the boot of his little hatchback, i thought he mush have a massive lawnmower. Forgot it was budget night and he must have been upset when it actually went down a couple of pence.

DVLA charges normally start the very next day and speech used to start after DVLA closed for the day at 3-30pm .
DVLA of course new in advance of the speech .
