FlyBe Cancelled Flight

Back in December I booked a flight with FlyBe going from Liverpool to Amsterdam in August 2016. Unfortunately, last week I received notification from the airline that this route was no longer operating and I had two options. 1, cancel the flight for a full refund. 2, change the flight to fly from Manchester. Since I still needed the flight, I took option 2.

However I already spent a lot of money on parking at Liverpool Airport. Having contacted the parking company, they refuse to cancel or refund the booking as it's not changeable as stated in their terms and conditions.

Having contacted FlyBe, they also refuse to cover the parking costs, and insist I speak to the travel insurance company (which they assumed I had).

As it happens I do have a policy with MultiTrip with all the optional extras, which is one of the best policies in the UK. Having said that, they don't cover parking costs as a result of a cancelled flights "by the airline".

So where do I stand here?

I don't think you stand anywhere if your 'best policy' travel insurance won't cover it, because nobody else will. Does the parking company also operate at Manchester, and have you asked if transferring the booking is possible?
  • Exactly :/

How can FlyBe be passing the blame like that when no company will cover that.

They're not passing the blame. No airlines are responsible for consequential loss. You opted to fly from Manchester so any losses incurred in you doing that are down to you (if your insurance doesn't cover them). You would have the chance of booking fully flexible car parking, and would have been aware your car parking was a non refundable cost when you accepted the alternative flight. It's just a cost you need to take into account when you decide to accept an alternative as opposed to a refund.

And how would cancelling for a refund have changed the outcome of the parking?

If you had taken a refund you could have rebooked with a different airline on the original route.

You've paid for car parking that is of no use to you any more.

Learn from experience, book a refundable/flexible product next time.

Move on and don't let it eat you up.

Didn't think that LPL-AMS service would last long. Sown up by the other airlines from LPL.

Weird business sense at times, Flybe.
