Returning to full time work after Part time (after maternity)

Hi

My wife would like to return to work part time after her maternity leave finishes, but eventually wants to return full time.
Does anyone know her rights re this? Do they have to keep a fulltime role available for her, or would it just be at their discretion?

    Are you talking about a month or two, of part time or a year or two?

    If it is agreed that she can come back part time, they do not HAVE to keep a full time role for her. It is up to the discretion of the company.

    She needs to discuss it with them and agree something suitable.

    They also do not have to agree to part time if it is not practical.
    Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
    Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

    The law requires that her original job is kept open for her to return to after statutory maternity leave (as far as practicable). If she asks to come back part-time, and they agree, then they have no obligation to allow her to increase her hours in future.

    Equally if she returns full-time and requests a reduction at a later date, and they agree, they are under no obligation to allow her to go back to full-time.
