Rechargeable battery upgrade - dismal failure

I have been using a quad set of Siemens Gigaset AL185H dect phones for some years now.
The original 550mah rechargeable AAA batteries fitted to each handset(2 in each) were in need of replacement so I fitted new 1800mah batteries. Same voltage with extra current capacity should mean longer time between charge?


I thought so but no, very little difference either with phone charger or independent charger. Further, the new batteries give far less warning than the old when running out of charge.


Can anyone explain to me how Replacing old, tired 550mah batteries with brand new 1800mah could end up being a bad move.

1800mAh is very high for an AAA battery, I would say they are fake/over exaggerated capacity. Look around the 900mAh and a well known make.

That's the ones I currently have in my Siemens Gigaset handsets - without any problems.

grumbler - how many days do the 7dayshop batteries last in your handsets please?
The old 550mah in mine had dropped from 4/5 days to 2/3 days.

Even for AA it's 600–2850mAh, but its volume is about twice as big as of AAA.
So, 1800mAh for AAA is a blatant lie.

TBH, they are almost always on the charging bases, but original worn out batteries didn't last even an hour.

If you want I can try and report back, but this will take time and is likely to depend on the distance to the base station.

Yeah, now way is an aaa battery anywhere near 1800mAh.

Buy some GP 900mAH, I use them in my Gigaset phones.

As above, 1800mAh is surely a lie AND if they're some cheap rubbish brand they could also be a fire risk. Never buy cheap/nasty rechargeables for ANYTHING that's on when your not around.

There is some info on battery replacement on page 6 of the instructions

It suggests the handset will not report the correct capacity unless the batteries are initially fully charged then allowed to completely discharge before the handsets are used normally.

Try popping the batteries out and back in again and calibrate the handsets like that.

Worth considering are Panasonic Eneloop AAA batteries.

1800 mah batteries will need much longer to charge compared to 550mah batteries although at £2.45 with a charger I suspect they are naff.
