HSBC mobile app

Not sure if this should be here or in the tech or even praise and vent boards?
Anyway HSBC they don't make life easy do they?
I use their mobile banking app but my phone has recently updated to Android's latest OS, marshmallow, since then whenever I try to open the app it automatically tries to download an update which fails and, of course the app won't proceed.
No problem I thinks I'll just log on with my PC using my passwords etc and send them a message asking if the problem is my phone or their app.
When I do I get the response 'sorry you need to be logged on more securely to use this service please use your mobile app to generate a secure key' or words to that effect.
Long story cut short...
I can't tell them their mobile app doesn't work without getting their mobile app to work, neat uh?
Wonder if I can remember the passwords etc I need to get through to someone on the phone?
Has anyone else got the same problem? Or even better a solution?

I've been on Marshmallow (Android 6) since it was released and did have some issues with the HSBC app initially. I needed to delete and reinstall it which was a pain for the activation codes but it's now all working fine.
I did need to call them a couple of times to get it all sorted out and codes generated.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
