O/S Daily Tuesday 8 March 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now light, looks to be a very cold and frosty start to the day – much the same as yesterday, the wind was absolutely bitter. It was so cold yesterday when I tried to defrost my car the de-icer froze on the screen had to wait for the engine to warm up enough to defrost it that way – hoping it’s going to start warming up forecast is for warmer weather at the end of the week/weekend.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was veg rice, noodles, spare ribs and the Chinese extras that we were going to have for dinner Saturday night, DH got in from work early as he went into work stupid stupid early yesterday morning and has another early start today so boss let him come home early last night. Dinner tonight is going to be chicken and mushroom slices, chips and beans/veg for the menfolk. I’ll be having jacket potato, beans/cheese and salad/veg.

Work yesterday wasn’t that busy for a Monday but steady – but we’re getting ready for our manic weeks as we approach 1 April, bills etc will start hitting the mats the end of this week beginning of next week, then it all kicks off! Once I finish tomorrow I’m not back at work until the week leading up to Easter, and of course 1 April falls whilst the kids are on Easter holidays, so that’ll be fun – not!
I’m looking forward to some time off before it gets horrendous – at present I’m grateful to still have a job – would just be nice to know how long for/what the intentions are.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Our run of dry, sunny weather has come to an end, wet and miserable out there today.

Going to the cinema tonight with work friends to see London has Fallen, looks terrible but Gerard Butler will be ok!

Used up chicken and veggies last night to have a thai curry, must do a shop for fresh veggies soon.

The shower mat is in the WM, it will probably be a week till that's dry it's so thick and heavy. Other washing is on the airer.

    Take care. XX

    Good morning everyone.

Thanks for the new thread nmlc.

Yes, it damp outside here too camelot, no sun today unfortunately. Yesterday was so bright too.

After the flurry or workmen yesterday I'm so pleased with the work, now just need to have some decoration done in the hall. That can wait until later in the year.

Washing didn't dry yesterday so it's on the airers. Nothing more to be done.

Today will be busy too, got my cars first service in the early afternoon so will have to leave home about 11 to get there in time. Then I'll head to Glasgow to spend time with mum. So it's just breakfast here.

Candlelight- I'm really enjoying the BSD and not feeling any withdrawal symptoms, it's actually fairly surprising that I can go from carb/ sugar junkie to eating none at all. I amazed myself.

Dumpling - how was your outing? Hope you enjoyed it.

Camelot - should have said 'good luck' on your official start to the new job. Sorry. I'm sure you did well.

Right - off to get myself sorted out. Happy Tuesday everyone.

    Morning all,

Thank you again for the Birthday wishes, I had a lovely day. Off to work today still doing my deputy manager bit which I think is going well, I have coped with everything so far, so fingers crossed !

Dinner tonight is yet to be decided will go and look in the freezer after this, I think there may be some mince in there.

Need to do an online shop tonight and put a wash on and have a tidy through the kitchen.

Right better get on have good days all xx
  • Morning all. We had a glorious sunrise this morning then it all went downhill! Now it's grey and cold. We never did go on our walk yesterday after I did a "test drive" round the garden! It was pleasant in the sun but darned cold out of it so Mr TA went for his blood tests after all and I stayed put!

So we finished the chicken and l/o veg off as planned for dinner last night and now the carcase is simmering away with some Sains broth mix. I'll strip the meat off when it cools a bit and add whatever veg needs eating up. That'll be Mr TA's lunches sorted for the next couple of days.

Plans for the day are flexible. I'll see what Mr TA feels up to when he gets up. But looking at the sky I don't think it will involve a walk!

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx

    Morning :hello:

topsy That's great news, good luck to him for the interview! xx

camelot I loved the first one, can't wait to see London Has Fallen, it's my type of film! Throw in a few aliens and monsters and it'd be perfect :D One thing that irked me in the trailer – someone says 'the British capital'. No no no! Gggrrrrrr :D

All this wind lately has ripped the felt off my shelter roof. I thought the wood underneath would be OK, a few days with no rain and it would dry off. But the felt seems to have been leaking for a long time and the wood is a mess. The frame is fine. We've bought new felt and master tru is picking up some boards for us, we'd get them ourselves but they're too big for the car. So we're just waiting for those then I can hang the washing outside again on wet days.

Found out last night that there's a meeting at 10am tomorrow about the dog walking group. I can't go, I'm expecting two deliveries and one of them is the food shopping – not something that can be left with a neighbour if you're not in :D It's taken a long time from the suggestion being made to having a meeting, I might be completely wrong (I hope I am) but it seems to be over-organised and will end up being micro-managed. Scampi is still perfect one day, nightmare the next when on the lead so not sure if it'll work for us at the moment, or if we'd even be welcome once they see him on a bad day :D

I've organised the frozen food, there's a bit of everything in the fridge freezer in the kitchen. When we run out of something, we have go 'shopping' from the freezer in the shed. When it's almost empty out there I'll go through the food, make a list and start building it back up again – with sensible things :D

    Morning everyone,

Cold and relatively bright here, yesterday was freezing but the office was hot and stuffy, there seems to be a lot of people off sick, wonder why
Another new lady started in our department and our supervisor couldn't have been nicer so guess just taken dislike to me, mind even she had to grudgingly say well done when payment for a August 14 invoice come in..
Will pop over to see Bill after work tonight, evenings are getting lighter so have a bit of time.

Have a good day everyone, take care all x

Morning all, the heating has been on all night, no wonder I was warm and comfy in bed. The boiler says that it is off so either it is sadly mistaken and needs to be spoken to sharply or OH has not counted to 6 when resetting it. Not very ms ahem.

Soon I will set the dough rising for a pizza. I don't go much on fancy pants toppings involving meaty things so am going to make a big heap of spicy meatballs and mentally divide the thing into thirds before I put them on it. I live with two avid meat eaters and although am not vegetarian, I don't enjoy eating much meat, cue repeated comments about me being difficult and picky. I don't think this is justified since even when meat goes on my plate, I mostly have a little bit and pass the rest over so all the more for them.

It is grey and damp here, but the birds are singing away.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning all,

Has just started to rain here, hope it isn't much.

We have a SM shop to do this morning for fruit and veg and must remember milk.

GERS I am pleased you are enjoying the BSD. It is remarkably easy, isn't it, once you get into it. I have been far more inventive with main meals, and Himself has been good eating veg that he wouldn't normally eat. The main thing for me was to reduce my blood sugar which was spiralling out of control because I couldn't take all of the medication because it had nasty side effects.

Now with the GP changing those, and me changing my diet I am absolutely thrilled and of course feel so much better. Diabetes affects so many parts of your body if it isn't controlled properly.

    Have a good day all

    Good morning everyone

Just shooed the girls off to school, they seem to be hanging around longer in the morning than necessary. Hubby has gone off to work happy as the bus company emailed him to say the new timetable would benefit him as it will drop him off practically at the door to work. He is still mithering about getting a car but hopefully there is no urgency now and he can spend more time deciding which one to buy.

I went out to Torrington yesterday all along the back roads. It was lovely to see daffodils in the hedgerows, Spring is definitely here although it is rather cold today. We popped into Lidls and I managed to grab a few bits before having to leave but I am really pleased I made the effort to get out. My support worker was happy too and I gave her a couple of my knitted chicks for her and her daughter to say thank you.

The snake and kidley pie went down a treat except for my fussy DD14, She ended up having roasties and then some toast later as she was hungry. Everyone else cleared their plates and there is a portion left for lunch for me and my friend. She is coming over for me to sort out her knitting. She doesn't like to follow a pattern preferring to see where her artistic expression takes her which makes for some interesting items. However, she wants to make some chicks to send to her family so I will be showing her again how to make them.

Right, I'd better stir my stumps and get dressed ready for my visitor. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Good Morning everyone, 0.6 degrees outside at the moment and I've flicked the central heating on as the house is cold enough to make my fingers ache! I had one of 'those' nights last night and just couldn't get off to sleep. I saw 4.30 am before I finally dozed off and woke with a start at 7.15 so am feeling woolly headed. No one will see any difference then!!! Not much planned for today but I might pop into town on the bus, I haven't been in for over a week and the fridge is looking a bit desolate. Only me to cook for today so I'll fit in a fish finger sandwich somewhere, not Cordon Bleu but I love 'em! and maybe a jacket with some baked beans and cheese for supper 'cos I love then too! I'm definitely a cheap date!

DUMPLING if I remember rightly isn't the Dartington Glass Factory at Torrington? I seem to remember going there many years ago when we were on holiday and thought the glass products were beautiful. Mind it was quite a while and they may have moved. It's a beautiful part of Devon though isn't it?

LAINEY you'll be better off away from the place if that is the case, how very unprofessional of the supervisor, I've had good working relationships with people whose personalities just grated but you're not there to be friends, you're there to do the job you're paid to do. She is vastly at fault love and you'll be better out of it! Chin up, not too long to go xxx.

Have yourselves a nice day and I hope something makes each of you smile, it's always a better day if that happens, Lyn xxx.
