Turkey

We're looking to book for June and noticing lots of discount for Turkey.

Has anyone recently traveled to Turkey? Hotel I'm looking at is in the Antalya Area.

We just want a troublefree holiday after our Egypt holiday was cancelled late last year

Thanks
Keith

Turkey is heavily discounted at the moment as the agents just can't shift it. Thomson and Thomas Cook have both recently reduced their allocation in Turkey for this summer and shifted some of it to Spain and Portugal instead which has seen quite an increase in bookings.

Turkey is having a lot of issues of it's own at the minute, along side the underlying threat from ISIS etc. Personally I wouldn't travel to Turkey this year. I used to live there for 3 years and love the country and would normally highly recommend it, but if you are looking for a stress free holiday then it's not the place right now.

The antalya area is normally very popular with russian and german guests, but I believe Russia has advised it's citizens against travel to Turkey (I may be wrong on this so don't take it as accurate) so you will find the area a little quieter than normal too.

It's been a good few years since any of the Kurdish political / terrorist parties have targeted coastal tourist resorts but it was once a more frequent occurrence. There have been a number of attacks in the last year or so in Ankara and Istanbul and certainly in Eastern Turkey (all of which are at least 10 hours or more drive away from Antalya though) and I do feel it's only a matter of time before they target a tourist resort again to make a bigger statement.
