North-East Facing Garden Sunshine
Comments

I wouldn't have called that NE-facing. I'd have said that was firmly E. There seems to be a tallish bush on the southern boundary, which is casting a decent shadow, and the patio's not going to get much sun at all except early on a summer's morning.0

Sorry can't help not something I've tried.0

Ours is NW facing (I think) with a patio at the bottom of the garden to catch the sun, installed by the previous owners. But we almost never use it, as I don't like direct summer sun, and prefer to sit in the shade of the house for coolness. But maybe that's just me.Been away for a while.0

It's East North East.
Or around 70 degrees. (how do you get the little raised 'o' for degrees on a keyboard?)
Maybe closer to 80 degrees.
In one of the James Bond movies, the baddy built magnifying mirrors in space to reflect the sun. You could try that?0 -
My (communal) garden is similar, though very much more northern facing. If it were all mine I'd think about building a patio at the far end to catch the sun, it's long enough that the shade gradually creeps down the garden so the end catches sun most of the day. But tbh if it is very hot and sunny I woukd prefer to sit in the shade.0

As asked previously is it possible to use mirrors to reflect the sunlight into the garden?
In a word no I don't think it is.
Isn't your friend's husband more concerned about the traffic noise from the road? There seems to be a few cars there? Clearly everyone has their own preferences but mirrors seem a bit over the top just to capture a bit more light.0 -
There's going to be plenty of sunshine in that garden, but not in the late afternoon/evening, when the large house to the north will cast shadows, even in summer. Barbecue to be positioned in top right corner?
The patio area will see little sun and it will probably go greenish, but on the plus side, kids playing there on hot days won't be subject to dangerous UV.
We have whatever sunshine is going here, but it's no accident that we've planted trees. It was the same in our old south-facing garden. You can have too much of a good thing!0 -
Looks like the patio will have sun ALL morning, up till 12 anyway. Mirrors...just no.
I'd stop worrying about such a minor thing.0 -
More than the garden the house itself could be dark, I imagine the main living spaces and bedroom will be at the back as the road is busy.
People worry about gardens but reality is when it's hot and you will be using it shade is a good thing and the rest of the year rarely do people use them. Is he a keen gardener? That would be the only real reason to concern regarding the garden.0 -

Most keen gardeners can adapt. They know what to grow and where to grow it.
Marginal fruit, like melons and grapes might be a problem, but it's a very small % of gardeners who specialise in those.0
