Where in the UK to buy, if I work from home?

Does anyone work from home, and can recommend me places outside the SE I might not have heard of/thought about that are great places to live if work is not important?
Ideally I want something nice and self contained, low traffic and walkable, with good dog walks, a buzz and a bit of life, but within 40 mins drive of a bigger city.
I've ruled out Bath (too posh) Brighton and central manchester.
I am looking to spend about 300k on a 2-3 bed place.
Thanks - hope you can help!

You could get a lot for 300k in Bournemouth, and it's really not too far away from everything.0

I'm not surprised, central Manchester isn't exactly known for low traffic .... You want a bit of life yet low traffic? Maybe you need to define what you mean by "a bit of life" as I would have said the two were difficult to marry up.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Might be too far north but Stirling's handy for Glasgow and Edinburgh. It's small, scenic, good schools good travel connections, got a nice microclimate (not as wet as the west coast or as windy as the east).
Have a look at what you get for your money at this EA website.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

just a note to the poster;
zagubov is a scot that lives down south in england: that tells you everything you need to know about his suggestion.0 -
I don't care about, and have never inquired about CLAPTON's location, nationality, national identity or ethnicity and whether that makes his judgement trustworthy.
Lived in central and east Scotland, and have family there, so I know a bit about it.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
