Tesco Mastercard - Annual 650 points bonus being scrapped

Just had a letter today to say that the annual bonus of 650 clubcard points is being scrapped
Its annoying of course but I will still be keeping the card - I'm getting 1 point for every £2 spent in Tesco, and the old petrol pump trick still dishes out 1 point per pound spent. But pickings are becoming rather slim!!

I'm sure this was a "Guaranteed for life" deal to switch from Tesco VISA - wish I had retained the original letter.
All the cashback deals were bound to be eroded once the retailer charges were slashed, though I've not really found anything different for many online purchases where there was always a sting for credit cards.
Think I'll be using Santander and Amex cards from now on.0 -
I still have my letter and if I can work out how to upload from an iPad I will put a copy up for you!
But yes, the 650 points were meant to be each and every year. I quote...
"We'll give you 650 bonus clubcard points each year your Tesco world MasterCard account remains open - just for being a customer. All this, plus you'll still have ge same great benefits you currently enjoy."
Im still toying with the idea of making a complaint based on the wording of the letter but not 100% sure yet!0 -
You don't need to keep the account for the petrol bonus (don't know about instore as I have the newer version that never had that offer). You can cancel it and it will still operate as a Clubcard.0

A series of FOS complaints could make this an expensive change for them.Carnival789 wrote: »I still have my letter and if I can work out how to upload from an iPad I will put a copy up for you!

Complaint made.
The number is 0345 300 4278.
and she politely tried everything to discourage me from logging the complaint.
She also repeated most of the points on the letter about changes to the industry meaning they can no longer give out free points.
My response was that the original letter promised the points every year "your account remains open" and "just for being a customer". At no point was this indicated as a limited offer.
I also pointed out that this was a very poor way to treat customers, bad P.R. , bad customer relations and all for the sake of 650 points per year.
Her points were that "nothing you can say will change this".
So my point was, I intend to take this all the way through the complaints process because of that attitude to your customers and I'm sure this will cost more than the 650 points you intended to save.
Frankly, the attitude might as well be "get lost we don't care about keeping promises".0 -

If that's the wording then if Tesco get a lot of complaints they might decide to close customers' card accounts. As the accounts will then no longer "remain open", customers won't qualify for the bonus.0 -

I have to say I think Tesco are in such a managerial mess that there are very mixed messages coming out about customer loyalty! ONE point for £8 spent outside of tesco is now just laughable. I have a clubcard plus card which I will retain for tesco purchases but everything else will go on another card now that they have decided to abolish this loyalty bonus Its just not worth spending with them! Really short sited and considering the in roads the discounters are making kicking loyal customers just doesn't make commercial sense!Etccarmageddon wrote: »That would be pretty sad and desperate.
Just another nail Mr Tesco!!:beer:0 -

I don't think it's sad or desperate. It's a logical way of dealing with a small group of customers who have the potential of making a big issue out of this.0 -

It depends on how you view customers. If you view them as dispensable then yes.0
