Buying a second car, mirror NCD?

Hi

I am buying a new car and I will be keeping and using my old car relatively equally.
I am with Hastings at the moment.

Which company allow NCD to be mirrored? Do I have to cancel my current insurance or I can just buy a new policy with my new car with mirrored NCD using my previous renewal letter for my old car?

I am the only driver on the policy, is it cheaper to go for multi-car insurance? Do multicar insurance has separate NCD for each car or does NCD follow the person?

A few insurers mirror and most don't so you will have to ring up each insurer in turn and ask, but both cars would have to be covered by the same insurer.
After the first year you should then get proof of two seperate ncd's

See if a local broker (not Swinton) can get you a deal with an insurer happy to mirror your NCD in return for you insuring two cars with them

Companies that appear to offer "matched no claims" include Direct Line, Churchill and Aviva (on multi-car policies). You would need to cancel your existing policy and take out a new policy.

Multicar insurance accumulates separate NCD for each car.
  • Admiral are famous for insuring two cars on one policy.
start with one car now and they will add the second car later.

I would like to mention as well that it's not always a requirement to insure both of the cars with the same insurer to get a mirrored NCB or introductory NCB.

I agree that a broker would probably be your best option in this scenario, but if you can evidence the NCB on your Hastings policy, some insurers would still be willing to give you the mirror/intro.

Find a decent broker or 2, explain the situation and let them sniff out the companies willing to do it.
