Punto Handbrake

Has anyone out their found their Punto (02 active) handbrake not much cop? mine has been checked out, the linings are hardly worn (29500 miles from new), no fluid leaks, the linings have been "roughed up"(deglazed) but it still wont hold on really steep inclines. im talking about the inclines that u sometimes find in pub car parks. Its ok for 99% of situations, 4th notch will hold well, if i put my foot on the footbrake, i can just get it to 6th notch, but the cable will snap if i keep doing this, but even this will not hold on the really steep inclines mentioned previously, yes i know if u leave it u put it in gear, and the car will be empty, i just find it annoying. (yes its passed MOT):eek:

Sounds like a case for good old style handbrakes where you just pull harder.

I had a couple of Puntos a few years ago and the handbrake was rubbish on both of them. I frequently had to leave it in gear or simply park it somewhere flatter. I never did get to the bottom of it despite asking the garage (main dealer) repreatedly to try and solve it.

It could be worse i suppose, I came to work on the M4 this morning and saw a bloke looking on as his punto went up in flames (anyone else see it?, it was quite spectacular).
