Structural Surveyor missed obvious BROKEN asbestos in my home

Thank you teneighty. You've given me hope that I have a leg to stand on.
The £8K included the contractor fixing plasterboard around every ceiling in the house.
I will contact the firm and see what he comes back with.
Still would be interested to know if anyone has been through a similar issue?0 -
Interesting - was there any mention of asbestos in his report?
I think it depends on what he was employed to do - if he was asked to do a structural survey, and did a structural survey then I'm not convinced there is a case against him.
Was it a "homebuyers survey" or similar which covers most things?
Check the small print on the appointment, some surveyors have very specific wording of what their survey does and doesn't cover. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
No, no word mentioning asbestos.
It was the full £600 Building Survey / Home condition report which we paid for which he assured us that was the best option to identify any issues with the property.0 -

that's pretty strange, usually they have all sorts of bum-covering stuff in there!!
You must have a case here, go back to them in the first instance - they'll probably palm you off but then speak to the ombusdsman as they can award you costs. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I know this isn't exactly on topic, but did asbestos really get used in 1910? I thought it didn't take off in home construction until at least the 20s.0

Presumably there have been a few updates to the house in the last 106 years

The dimpled surface is a bit of a giveaway. If that is the photo from the survey report they haven't got a leg to stand on and should have flagged it up for testing and further investigations.0
