Hi all,

I am looking to get a small car on pcp in the next few weeks.

I know nothing about cars. So far I have looked at a three door pre owned Rio. Still under warranty. Very affordable payments. Comes with free gap insurance thrown in.

A brand new fiesta - £50 more a month with a slightly higher ballon payment and £399 for gap insurance. VERY pushy sales person so personally feeling less inclined towards anything she suggests. I think my partner only took me to ford - to make me more inclined to the Rio - which surprises me as he loves fords. Haha

Both petrol. Both manual. I will be doing stop start driving mostly - short distences with the odd weekend away - involving a couple of hours drive there and back...

I'm going to be looking at Dacia tonight. I've just read a thread on here about a diesel filter and was wondering if there is anything really obvious I need to know before buying?

Stashbuster - 2014 98/100 - 2015 175/200 - 2016 501 / 500 2017 - 200 / 500 2018 3 / 500

You're comparing a used car with a new one. What's the cost difference between a new Kia and the new Ford, or a used Ford and the used Kia?

From your description of your use, you'd probably be better off with petrol, but a bit more information on total expected annual mileage, length of "short stop-start" and frequency of the weekends away might help.

The Rio - swish model (cruise control and stuff - but seens as I don't know what it it is I reckon I won't know how to use it. ) brand new would be the same price as the basic fiesta. The ford has a three year warrenty versus a 7 year warrenty with Kia.

I don't want a second hand ford as it would be out of Warrenty before the end of the pcp agreement.

I don't know milage - I don't know length of trips as I don't have a job and currently have no car. The sales man at Kia said possibly about 15000 for the year rather than 12000 as it would equate to less than £10 a month extra rather than a possible heavy penalty at the end of the pcp agreement. Trips through the day maybe up to 4 or 5 miles each time and it's a 15 minute or 4.9 mile drive to where the office is currently situated. Through a country lanes rather than dual carriage way.

Extra miles on ford are 8p and 15p for Kia. Woman at ford thought 15000 was a high annual rate to do - but she also is just generally pushy.

Weekend trips probably 8 times a year - but partner hated my driving so may insist on driving his car for 5 or 6 of those.
