Ferry to Brittany - July

About £500 is the cheapest I can find !!!!

Any idea which route is the cheapest? Live South Wales so any of Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth is not too bad.

Rather not drive miles to Dover then miles back across France to Brittany...

Unfortunately in Summer the demand increases the cost. I have just done a 4 month stay in Spain and travelling in November and March put the cost down to £200 ish including a cabin however the downside is the rough crossings.
I have to say after my last crossing I will go by Dover next time and use the chunnel. #neveragin

    Try Newhaven-Dieppe on DFDS?

Also Condor Ferries: Poole-St Malo from £157 return in July, with a stop-over in in Jersey or Guernsey.

My lads do that UK - Spain and back crossing regularly, I heard it can get a bit rough;)

Paulfoel - might be totally off, but have you priced Fishguard to Rosslare, then Rosslare to Cherbourg? Might be a totally daft idea on both time and costs, but thought I'd chuck the idea into the mix.

£630 Poole-StMalo for end of July.

£260 newhaven-dieppe. Trouble is its 3.5 hr drive this side, and then 4 hr drive other side then.

Possibly a bit much with a 3 year old.

Really? We took our son down to the south of France in a Morris Minor when he was 3, took 2 days solid. He loved it as long as he could see out.

Would rather a longer ferry, shorter drive to be honest.

Then you'll need to pay the going rate! If you choose overnight sailings don't forget to offset the cost of a night in a hotel against the fare.

The 2016 Tour de France kicks off in NW France in the first week of July.

Anything from the end of June right through to the middle of July will be busier and therefore dearer as a result
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Re-reading the OP - for what?
    - a bloke and a pushbike?
    - a car and 4 people and a cabin?
    - a motorhome, 2 people and a dog?
    - peak sailings or cheap ones?
    - midweek or weekend?
