Hi All,

I've recently received a letter from JC International Acquisition stating that I owe Post Office Telecoms £103.72, and that Capital Resolve are now dealing with it.

Bit of background... I had broadband and line rental from the Post Office about 5 years ago. They installed a new line but had not told me that I had to pay for it if I left part-way through the year contract. I appreciate that it's only right to do so but they should have told me when I closed my account. Anyway, I closed my account and the Post Office gave me rebate on the last month that I'd paid. I moved straight away, which was the reason for closing my account.

I then received a letter from a debt collection agency about 2 or 3 years later stating that they had taken a debt from the Post Office and that I owed them about £100. After numerous phone calls and emails to the Post Office, which they stated that I did not owe them anything, they finally informed me that my outstanding debt was for installing the line. So I happily paid them and the previous debt recovery agency ceased contact.

Now it seems that the previous agency have sold my debt on to JCIA and that Capital Resolve are now demanding that I pay them £103.72 and that the Post Office are no longer responsible for the management of my account. I've contacted the Post Office and they've informed me that they won't deal with it, or provide proof that I paid the debt off. I swear I'd never go with the Post Office again. Anyway, am I safe to ignore these letters from Capital Resolve? They've managed to find out my new address and they've also sent me a text to ask me to call them. I won't call them as I know what they're like.

I know that I'm in the right as the debt was paid off. My only concern is that Capital Resolve mark my credit report with an unpaid debt. It took so long to resolve the issue in the first place, thanks to the Post Office being extremely rubbish, and I don't want to have to go through all of this again just to prove my innocence. My other concern is that the Post Office accepted payment for the line rental but really it should have gone to the first debt agency, since they bought the debt from them, so perhaps the debt still remains and I've been swindled by the Post Office.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My instinct is that Capital Resolve are just trying it on as they've bought an old debt for cheap and that perhaps they won't bother to mark my credit rating, but it's obviously a concern. I don't want to engage in conversation with them if I don't have to though.

Thanks in advance.
