Capital one system outage

At 00:30 today, I tried to make a purchase online.
My capital one mastercard was rejected. I tried to add it to ebay to pay that way, and it was also rejected.
I called their 24/7 helpline, and they explained they are updating their systems. They do this once a week at around this time, every sunday night. During this time, transactions can not be authorised. I should try again in an hours time.
Has anyone else experienced this? How can a card company not allow transactions for an hour a week. This seems madness to me, but the guy made it sound like it was normal. What if it was an emergency and I needed to use my card?
Makes me really mad.
There is no other obvious reason why I might have been declined. Keep my account in good order etc, and well within the limit they have given me.

I understand ur frustration, but i bet you would b the first to complain if their system was rubbish, or wrong. If it needs tobe done, then it needs to be done, i think the have picked a very suitable time when most pp are in bed. You can't have a go at them for updating systems, and it is only an hour.Halifax CC [STRIKE]£1322.88[/STRIKE] £0 :j 11.9% Virgin CC [STRIKE]£1534.76[/STRIKE] £1384.76 0% until AUG 13. Its probably quite an unusual time to be making transactions, so maybe they choose their quietest time to do an update, if I were you I'd just try again, and remember for future reference to not be making purchases early monday mornings!I believe that I have the strength to make my dreams come true:T September Challenge £5 per day - £0/£150 :T0

As I understand it when a company's authorisation system is down, Mastercard and/or Visa (depending on your card) step in to check whether a transaction can go through or not. They will have different (probably much tighter as there is only a small benefit to them) criteria for whether a transaction goes through or not depending on their own set of rules as most transaction fraud is commited online I can see why they might reject your transaction at that time of night.Val
