Do you need compatability with Excel?
http://www.openoffice.org/ is an alternative to M$ Office. Not sure if you can work between Excel and openoffice though....0 -
try openoffice.org?
Excel is part of office so you will need to get the whole thing..0 -
I downloaded openoffice last night, but i think it need excel to work as it just wouldn't open up, so i deleated it as it was doing nothing.
I have checked on ebay and the prices go up to £40, i can not afford this on my budget.
Just wondering if any other sites do it cheaper........It is better to regret something you have done than something you haven't.....0 -
Openoffice should be able to open and save excel spreadsheets fine. You don't need Excel (or any part of MS Office) for it to work.
It's free, the best you're going to get without paying for MS Office.
You probably need to check how you installed it, there may be a problem there. Just "deleting" things that don't work is never a good idea, they need to be uninstalled properly...student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0 -
I'm using openoffice (calc) for the 1st time. It does know the extention .xls so its 100% compatible with M$ oofice excel.0

If you're a genuine student, M$ will sell you a "student's" version of office for under half-price (have a look here). Your uni may have even a deal to get a cheaper version...Jumbo

It's not 100% compatible with Excel, there a facets of Excel which cause OO to fall off it's feet.

OP you have two options if you want MS Excel they are:
1. Student License
or
2. Secondhand Original Copy with license "Be sure to ask for this, it's worthless without it"0
