Metro Bank Current Account

Hi guys. I recently opened a cash account and savings account at Metro Bank nearly a month ago. I am really interested in the Current Account to be honest, but didn't open one for fear of being rejected in the credit check. From what I've seen in forums and stuff, not many have been rejected from the Current Account, even people with really bad credit. And I spoke to a Metro Customer Services representative who said that her husband has multiple defaults and a CCJ, and she didn't think he would get accepted but he did, and he didn't have any other accounts with MetroBank. And seeing as I'm not actually looking to borrow any credit, just to open a current account, she said it should be okay, as credit checks for current accounts are looking for different things than what a lender would be if you were having a credit check to borrow a loan/card. She said that not being bankrupt is a good start. I thought opening up the cash and savings and putting money in both, would help me develop a history with them. What are others' experiences, particularly those with low credit scores and/or defaults , of opening a MetroBank current account? I just don't wanna go in store and be embarrassed if that happened....

I think Metro Bank base it purely on your credit score, unlike other banks which base it also on other factors.

They gave me my first CC and a very high limit, more than three months salary, which I thought was good seeing as it was my first.

If your credit score is fine go for it.

I originally had a cash account, and then opened a current account and CC at the same time.

Ah okay cool, I'm not looking for a credit card, it's just the current account. And my credit score is poor or at least was the last time I checked... But seeing as a few ppl said that they've opened a current account with poor scores or with defaults or CCJs, I'm just dunno what to do...

I have... When I say I don't know what to do, it's not about how to check. Like the post says it's about hearing others' experiences because I'm not sure.

The worst thing that can happen is they say no. A single search on your credit report won't affect it at all.

Banks have said NO to me and my credit rating is fine, these banks are very odd.

I assume you mean that they base it on your credit record given that a) they won't know your credit score, and b) even if they did it doesn't mean anything.

Yes sorry the credit record. Its good but some banks said no, even when I had been a good customer for years.

I went elsewhere and they gave me everything I wanted.
