Boiler Replacement Grants

Boiler Replacement Grants
I am looking urgently to get help for a close relative in their 70's who is a pensioner and home owner NOT on benefits but with a disabled wife.
Old gas boiler has just died and needs pulling out.
From an earlier posting on MSE, it appears that .....
!The typical cost of buying and installing a boiler is £2,500, according to the heating industry.!
I have had a quote for £5,300 to rip old fire out and cap off and then in new location put a new energy saving boiler in and reconnect to existing system and with new motorised valves.
Almost double in price and as they do not have the money - its about searching for grants and borrowing from family again.
I should be grateful for any pointers but I repeat they are NOT on any benefits.
Many thanks in advance for any realistic ideas for these pensioners in their 70's.
Many thanks
Alan

That quote is way over the top. I had a similar job done - remove old back-boiler, install new combi-boiler upstairs - for £1600+VAT.
I know you said they don't receive benefits, but if they get pension credits (which they might not consider to be a "benefit" because it's a top-up to their pension) they ought to be eligible for help under the ECO scheme.0
