you might be ok with a laundry bleach like ecover or ace, but I'd just soak in biotex overnight then wash next day0

I wash my flannelette sheets at 60 degrees. I use biological washing powder with a desertspoon of lemon juice chucked in the drum. The lemon juice really does whiten and brighten the laundry. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

The blue specks in the washing powder serve the same purpose. (supposedly)0 -
I think Mar that Fairy has no optical brighteners or bleach and white things will eventually lose their whiteness without a hot wash. My cousin is a chemist and told me Ariel powder would sort that. I have no allergy or skin issues so this works for me. Plus my Mum used it.0

I've seen first hand how drying in strong sunlight can bleach stains out of washable nappies, but never heard that frost is good for whitening. What's the scientific basis for this? They are an EYESORES!!!!0

I have also heard that if the grubbiness is due to sweat, washing up liquid works well to break down that grease- choose a cycle with pre wash, chuck about 3 good quirts into the pre wash bit of your machine (or right on to the sheets), then use your usual detergent. Also, a good scoop of bicarb is supposed to be helpful in the wash, too.
By the way- hi all!! Just joined after years of lurking0 -
