Massive Increase in Home Insurance

If you think you deserve lower payments and are actually better at time management lets compare circumstances. Lets see if your hlier than thou attitude is justified shall we Maybe youre just an arrigant presumptious troll 8)0

Comparison sites make it very easy to run through multiple providers to find better deals. The ones who auto-renew and don't compare effectively subsidise those who shop around and take advantage of the offers given to new customers. It can save you money in the long run to spend time doing this for all your insurance.
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Nasqueron Good point I think we are all agreed on that0

So in summary so far the collective advice is dont try and pursue this further regardless of the size of the premiums and regardless of the fact that my policy wasnt updated completely and correctly although it was indeed changed after my call.
The most important thing to focus on is how this is 100% my fault and could have been avoided. The could have been avoided bit was obvious from my initial statement and completely redundant.0 -
You keep talking about vulnerable people. I'm one of those people, I can go for months at a time when I cannot deal with financial matters. Auto renewal works for me, it means that I can be sure I have insurance in place whatever happens health wise.
In what way is software development a regulated industry? The only regulation I can think of is contract law, which applies equally to the insurance industry. Unless you can explain otherwise I would say there is far more regulation in insurance. Is there any statute or official ombudsman for software development?!
No response OP?
Or are you just blindly continuing to speak out for the vulnerable, who you now also refer to as "the poor and the unfortunate", without actually listening to how they feel, real life opinions and not just dramatics you have made up to illustrate a point?
Clue: Disabled people are not automatically "poor" or "unfortunate". Nor do we need people like you speaking up for us, we're more than capable of doing that ourselves.0 -
The problem is if you wake away auto renew then the senile, those who have more important commitments and can't spend time shopping around, those with the terminally I'll dependents will find that rather than having slightly more expensive insurance they have no insurance as they forget to get any and when they then find they need it they will be up the Creek with no house at all.

It takes less than 10 minutes to type your details into a comparison site and buy the cheapest insurance!. I can guarantee that you can find a spare 10 minutes once a year to get cheaper insurance (you have spent more than 10 minutes reading and replying to this thread!).
You may think i'm an "arrigant presumptious troll" but if you take heed of what i'm saying then you will save ALOT of money across all your insurance!0 -
Great some intelligent relevant posts. Thankyou. Now we really are getting to the specifics of the problem. Auto renewing in itself isnt the issue. Its when providrers use it with impunity to hike premiums up by astonishing completely unjustifiable levels. Thats where the vulnerable get hit thats whats morally bankrupt and THAT and THAT ALONE is what Im complaining about0

Yes lets stop the debate when w3 are actually finally answering the question instead of trolling the poor devil asking for help0

There ARE times in your life when you dont have 10 mins and access to the internet You just havent experienced them. I already have acknowledged I wasnaive and made a mistake. Please just answerthe actual query about the immense SCALE of the hike. I didnt complain about reasonable increases for 13 years that is not the point. READ my query and postsomething relevant.0
