They asked for 'chat instantly' which is exactly what chat rooms are. What do you think they meant?

Well, the suggestions I gave in a previous post are all forms of instant chat online.

Chat rooms are another form of instant chat.

For some reason you didn't seem to like my suggestions.

No. I do like your suggestions, I even said so in my post.
We have moved on to forums like this and social media apps you listed which is at it should be.

None of the above are chat rooms in the old sense of the word and I mean old. IRC type chat rooms largely died out years ago.

I'm sure there are a still some hardcore niche users somewhere but I doubt any of them would be any use to the OP.

They were low tech, low bandwidth and non graphical, a necessity on slow dial-up internet connections.

P.S. I wanted to use the more correct plural fora but forums looks better. :o

You mean like bulletin boards? Some of those 'forums' weren't for the faint-hearted :rotfl:

OP have you tried Reddit? I think a lot of people on here also use Reddit.
left the forum due to trolling/other nonsense

I connected to a chat website and it was full of inbreds frequenting the rooms. Those inbreds are highly aggressive in the presence of newcomers and they form alliances to resist the newcomer. Very disappointing experience. I would like a chat that it's not infested by regulars.

I suggest you alter your attitude if you wish people to 'chat' to you

Referring to people as 'inbreds' is incredibly rude.

If you join somewhere and like it and return, you will become a regular, so you will have to leave so you stop infesting the place and becoming inbred.

Verily, it is a conoundrum that is not easily resolved.

I used to visit MSN chat back in the day, was good for late evenings when I lived alone. Used to have very decent conversations and everyone knew you, it was a little community.

Then sadly it became more and more based around people wanting sex, as soon as you joined people would whisper you "asl" (age/sex/location for those not as old as me :p) and you'd get a lot of whispers of people wanting to "cyber" (basically sexy talking). The good conversation died and I stopped bothering, soon after I believe it shut down. I tried a while back to find a new version, but they are all frequented by the same sex crazed types :p

I used the msn chat rooms too. Grapvine 30s was brilliant until i reached 40 and thought i'd move up to the Grapvine 40s. What a mistake that was! From the 30s that was based on fun and laughter to the 40s.
