Amazon cancelled an order without asking

My husband ordered an item with expedited delivery from Amazon. First problem item did not arrive within the time scale give. Refund of expedited fees sorted. :T
Then to add insult to injury, somewhere along the line the delivery was messed up & the item returned. At no point was any attempt made to deliver the item to the delivery address.
Now without bothering to ask, they have cancelled the order & organised a refund. My husband still wants the item!
What on earth are they up to?

Contact live chat and ask them.
They are usually quite good at sorting things out although it can be a long winded process depending on who you get.0 -

Just such a weird counterintuitive response to a delivery/carrier problem.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0 -
Can't he just re-order it?0

When anything arrives back with them the seem to process a refund automatically unless there is a replacement already created.
Just place a new order and I would expect they will offer to waive delivery charges or something.0 -

Amazon are rubbish these day, it's the last place you'd want to buy from.0 -

Are they? They're not perfect but I can't think of another large retailer with such good customer service.
OP, was the item coming from overseas (your tracking will tell you this)? If so they seem to have some problems with these orders. I'd go on live chat, explain you want to reorder and ask them to waive the expedited shipping cost. They should sort it for you straightaway.0 -
