Removing a Financial Association

My partner recently got his credit score, and found an old financial association on it. This dates back 8 years to when he was at Uni, he and his 3 housemates had a joint account with all their names on to pay bills. He believed that this account was closed long ago but apparently not as he still has a financial association with one of them.
We have found that we have to fill in a form to remove the association, but we do not have any contact or current address details of the other person. We also do not have any of the account details other than the bank it was held with and an approximate date of opening.
With these problems in mind is there any way of removing this association?

Discuss with the bank. It may be easier to get removed as a joint holder of the account and that would remove the association as the bank updated its reporting to credit reference agencies.

At the moment he's jointly liable for all debts incurred on the joint account if nothing has been done to block that. A a minimum he should instruct the bank to prevent withdrawals from the joint account, an instruction they are required to act on.

He can still request the disassociation based on the age of the debt - but it will be at the discretion of the credit agencies. They will normally like to see that any outstanding debt has been paid.
