my mother in law has a 1 bedroom bungalow with 3 storage heaters, she only uses the heaters at night to charge them up.there are 2 meters at the property with 5 readings unfortunately she is being billed the wrong way round for the meters, I have done some checking during the day and night and she is being billed at the high price for using her heaters, instead of charging her 7 pence per kW used they have been charging 18 pence .resulting in high bills ,one of the meters doesn't move and npower said they didn't know what it was used for .this meter has never moved for years but has the cheap heat tariff assigned to it,when I tested this I found that the meter was the boost for the hot water and not for heat ,they have been charging the storage heaters at the boost rate and it is wrong .npower have not been very helpful instead told us it was up to us to sort out what was wrong with the readings, last yearn power messed up her readings and they had to give her free electric for the previous year and compensated her .looks like there wrong again ,has anyone else had this problem they didn't even know the time for the storage heaters were switched on by the grid ,I had to tell them the info .what a mess can anyone help .i have also found out that 1 meter is economy 7 and the other heat wise which they didn't also seem to know.

the setup you have described is a fairly common (for complex meters)complex legacy meter.
Sounds like NPower have transposed the readings that your mother is being billed. and they should be able to fix this.
as you seem to have found out, these meters where installed when electricity was a lot cheaper and integrated heating units were installed regularly. As the meter has 5 registers they were used to record usage at different times. From memory, If there is no issue with the time switch, the first register should be used to record regular Day usage the second register to record regular night usage, the 3rd to record Boost, 4th Storage heaters and 5th immersion heater or weekend usage. This can be different if your mother has had any wiring changes to her heating system.npower have not been very helpful instead told us it was up to us to sort out what was wrong with the readings
If you haven't already done so i would raise an official complaint regarding this problem and provide spaced reads. This should be a record of all register readings at different times during the Day.0 -
