Groupon - What's happened to the deals??

When Groupon first started there were a fair few deals to be had and now as a result of deal scavenging, G rarely shows a good price. What's happened to the service for household items?

Granted, the odd restaurant deal might be the low hanging fruit but all the household shopping related stuff seems to have evaporated?

In fact the reverse is sometimes true: Nespresso capsules £20 on G but £16 from Nespresso's own website?

Now that is madness.

Groupon's model was that advertisers would have to discount by 50%+, but then give 50% of the balance to Groupon. That meant the advertiser took *AT LEAST* a 75% haircut. Groupon said they'd attract new customers, but those customers were all ones who would just flit from deal to deal, very little loyalty. Perhaps all the local advertisers just got fed up.

Another class of advertiser were mayfly companies who'd order a containerful of something cheap and cheerful from the Far East, incorporate a few days before, make up a silly RRP to discount heavily, have fairly poor customer service, and then vanish altogether some weeks later after delivery.
