damp smell

Hi,

I have recently moved into my new ground floor flat in a maisonette building. Unfortunately I am sensing this weird and awful smell in the entrance hallway which is more like a damp smell. I would really like to get rid of this smell as it has taken away the joy of a new house. Also I have found areas of wet patches on the external wall just on the left-hand side of the entrance, could it be the reason for the smell?

Please HELP

You is responsible for the entrance hall way and the fabric of the building? They will need to find out how the damp is getting in and stop it! Treating the smell will be next to useless.

It probably will be. The smell lingering is probably because there isn't a lot of air circulating in the hall.

If you live in a maisonette, Ipresume the entrance hall is yours, not communal . Do you own the flat?

What is on the other side of that wall? Can you see anywhere that water might get in? Any wet patches, loose mortar, cracked render, dodgy guttering or perhaps the ground level is higher outside than in?
