Applying for credit card while abroad

in Credit cards
Hi Guys,
I had a look through the forums and couldn't really find an answer to this one. I am currently traveling in Central America but maintain an address in the UK. I saw all the amazing 0% on purchases and balance transfers deals on credit cards going on right now. I have just secured a full time job in the Cayman Islands and am wondering about the logistics about applying for a credit card from abroad. Although I have a UK address to register I would be entering my work information as the Cayman Islands. Is this grounds for immediate rejection? I don't know if anyone has encountered this before...
Cheers,
Gareth

You won't get a UK card while living overseas. At least, not without committing fraud.0

You have to enter the address where you live and can be found, not "to register".Gareththegood wrote: »...Although I have a UK address to register ...0 -
Before anyone thinks I'm commiting fraud... I haven't moved there yet! My UK address is still my home address. This is why I'm asking, so that I don't get myself in trouble. Thank you for your responses.0

I applied for a Clarity card with Halifax this week (Successful )
One of the paragraghs I had to read was to confirm that there were no impending changes to my circumstances that I was aware of such as redundancy etc.
I would imagine all online applications are more or else the same and this is where you will fall down.
You will have to lie and commit fraud or tell the truth and be declined.0 -

I think you're trying to square the circle.
Either you're employed in the Cayman Islands and live there. Or, you haven't moved there yet and haven't started work yet.
Most CCs have as a condition of application that you are UK resident. So if you can honestly say that you are still living in the UK then you could apply on that basis and the basis of your present employment (if any). But it is sailing close to the wind if you know your circumstances are changing and fraudulent if the application is as per JonesMUFCforever's.0 -
I think, if one is a UK resident at the time of application, there is no any problem with stating this in the application regardless of the plans (unless specifically asked about the plans).
The problem the OP was facing was to give a UK residential address along with employment details abroad.0 -

Or option three......you're gonna clock up some airmiles with a commute like that!0 -
Applying for a credit card shouldn’t be difficult, especially if you have good credit. But when you live overseas, banks are often reluctant to take a risk on you, making it slightly harder to apply for a credit card.0
