Printer not printing lined up

This doesn't happen all the time so I can't figure out what's going on. My printer (HP deskjet D1660) is printing on the edge of the paper so much so not all the print is getting on the paper. The paper has been correctly loaded into the printer. I printed something which didn't get all on the paper, didn't touch the paper and printed again which was fine.
It's messing up most of the time.
Thinking it could be the computer, I tried with my laptop and got the same results.
My printer is very old.

Have you doe a printer test page - not a windows one but one selected from the printer and checked the print head alignment ?

I had similar with an old printer. MS word documents were printing but not in the right place on the page. Printing from pdf files was fine. From memory the printer drivers were out of date.
  • Printer isn't printing at all now :( It's like the message has been sent but the printer isn't receiving it. I will have a look at the drivers. Fingers crossed because I can't afford to buy a new printer.

Unplug the printer from the USB cable, then completely remove the drivers and software from Windows. Once you've done this, reinstall the drivers and plug the USB cable back into the printer when prompted.
  • According to HP the drivers weren't out of date but I download them anyway to try and YAY! It worked. Thanks you!
