Storage Heater problem!

So I have a Heatstore storage heater in my living room. Its an automatic one with a fan and boost control so it can be used during the day too on expensive electricity. Last week my partner turned it off at the wall. A few days later he turned it back on and nothing stone dead cold. I have had an engineer out and he identified and replace the thermostat and the other thing on the 2 controls. Its now been 2 nights and its come on but its just lukewarm and only on one side. Now my first thought is the elements have a problem but he checked those. Could it be the sensor not working? I need to get the guy to come back but he is busy and doesn't know whats wrong. Its now snowing and Im freezing. He seems to think it might be something wrong with the metre or stop clock but wouldn't that affect the bedroom storage heater and water heater but they are both working fine? He also suggested that it might be that he claims the heater has too high a fuse in the fuse box. He said it is on a 32A but should be 20A or 16A. Could it be that?

No, that is not the problem. But you should still have the correct fuse fitted.

  • Yeah thats on my to do list. It will have been like that since new. It also had a 13A switch originally on the wall but I replaced that 2 years ago when it randomly started getting hot.

Just re read your first post. I'd get another electrician. Or if that's getting expensive a new storage heater.

  • I can't afford to replace it. That will cost hundreds.

Id get another engineer as the existing one sounds like he doesn't have a clue.

The rating of the fuse isn't the issue, nor is the meter or the time clock signal.

It'll be either a faulty element (are you confident the engineer new how to test for a failed element?) or the thermostat.
