Best way to see downstairs device on upstairs TV

For safety and security, I am planning to fit external cameras around the outside of my house, which will feed through a downstairs wall into a DVR (basically a DVD that records) via ethernet cables. The product says that you just plug that box into a TV via HDMI, then you can see the video cameras live. But is there a way for me to get those pictures to my upstairs TV if the box is downstairs? I'm guessing there might be several options:

1. I've heard of 'video senders'. I don't need a great picture, just to be able to see if anyone is out there etc (the DVR itself will record at good quality if the pics are needed later). Would this be the best / easiest solution?

2. There are several aeriel sockets in each room of my house. If I plus the DVR into one, and a bedroom TV into another, does that mean they will be able to see each other like in a computer network? Or are such sockets purely to distribute signals FROM the aeriel on the roof, but take nothing in? (Sorry if I sound ignorant on the subject, that's because I am!)

Are am I missing some other method (other than wiring cables from upstairs to downstairs, which I'd like to avoid if possible).

Grateful for any advice anyone might be able to provide. :)

I bought a hikvision NVR (network video recorder). That means it is accessible via my network, and as my network is connected to a wireless router, via my wifi too. They have an android app which allows you to view all of the streams.

Sorry, doesnt answer your question directly. You can get some video senders, but the quality is not great and the range is limited. Or you could look at wireless HDMI, but I do not have any experience of using it, so dont know what the range or reliability is.

It will all depend on the outputs from your device. If it has a second output or an output via coaxial your could easily adjust the coaxial (aerial) wiring but it will mean you can't use it for a tv signal.

A HDMI splitter could also be doable but you would then need to run a HDMI lead from downstairs to upstairs and HDMI can suffer some problems with long cables (10m or above).

You best option would be a networked system and a wireless router with a cheap computer or phone getting the signal upstairs.

So both of you are saying that a networked system would probably be better for my needs - that makes sense to me.

I was originally looking at this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Weatherproof-Notification-Megapixels-Hi-Resolution-Vandalproof/dp/B00NZWIZYS/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457089854&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=ankke+security+camera+poe

I thought it was just a DVR, but due to your posts I've now noticed it says 'NVR' in the product description - does that mean I can access the picture upstairs on my phone via WiFi? If so then that would be sufficient for what we need it for.

(Any advice on a better system would be welcome if that one isn't so good - I'm basing my current view on it's Amazon rating/reviews alone...)

    Have a read on:

    For great advice on cctv.

I dont know about the device you linked to, but hikvision seemed the best value for money when I bought about a year ago. The 2232 (bullet) and 2332 (turret) EXIR cameras provide full hd resolution. I ordered from china using aliexpress. Choose a reliable seller and you can usually pick them up for about half the price they are in the UK.

And yes, it looks as if you can access that NVR over a network, but again, without reading reviews on that specific model, I couldnt tell you how configurable or how good it is.
  • Ip cam then access over wifi through mobile phone, pc browser etc even normal tv (with streamer box )
Wired or wireless activate motion sensor to send email pics
    e.g but plenty out there

Decide either you want to use them as visual deterrent or covertly depends on the threat paranoia levels:rotfl:
