EDF tariff names

Hi,

Is there a fundamental difference between the EDF Blue+ Price Promise and the Blue+ Price Freeeeze options?

Apart from one being a longer fix (maybe thats it) it seems that the 'features' are the same (no exit fees, fixed rate for term) , albeit charged at different rates of course.

Thanks

I did wonder if it was just marketing names for largely the same -
Many of the Price Promise options are 1 year plus which is quite a long time anyway.

If I was their marketing person I would simply set all names the same and change the amount of eeee's in Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze to show the consumer how many months its fixed for! :)

    Thanks

The fundamental difference between the tariffs is if you sign up to the price promise tariff you will be able to run a personalised comparison on your online account that will tell you if you could save money by swapping to a competitor.

Price freeeeze doesn’t offer this service.

Not only that, but if you compare the two from the breakdown of the Kw price per unit (in my case, both units, as I am on E7) you will see that the price freeze option are MORE expensive, despite the claim it will be cheaper per year than the present Price Promise quote.

It is now a lot harder to access these breakdown figures of day /night/standing charge rates, they used to be clearly shown with all the different tarrifs, now you have to search to find these rates !

I've never heard EDF Energy claim price Freeeeze will be cheaper than Price Promise. It wouldn't make sense to have along term fix with cheaper rates than a short term fix.

As for prices they can be found at either of the below links:

Hi Bark01, point taken, but if you click on "CHANGE TARRIFS" it shows

a Blue + Price Promise March 2017 as being LESS that at present, i.e.

    £187.14
    Yearly personal projection

    Save £5.64
per year by moving to this tariff ( Blue + Price Promise, which I am already on)

but if you/I check the unit rates (WHICH ARE NOT SHOWN ON THAT PAGE) they are considerably MORE than what I am paying at present,

so how can it save me 5.64 less, it can't !!

My point is /was, it is not obvious now to see the unit rates, they no longer show against each tarrif, you have to hunt for them.

but thankyou for your links. :)

Yes I am the same. When going on the Change tariff on my Edf account the gas works normally, that is a small saving and the price per kWh is lower.
However for electric it is diffent. I am on July 2016 price promise and for all of the recent tariff changes including promise March 2017 it shows I will save money despite the standing charge being the same but price per kWh being more.
Consequently my gas is on March 2017 and electric on July 2016. Will see what is on offer in July.

EDF had a pretty good web site, but have now dumbed it down

Previously if you elected to look at the 'Change tariff' options, it came up with a page that was headed by your present tariff, no matter that this tariff was no longer available to new customers, with all the current tariffs listed below

The new format only shows those currently on offer, and even more annoying is the statement that you could save £xx by changing from your present tariff to a current one, which is blatently untrue

The method used to calculate your energy costs for the next 12 months is mandated by OFGEM (the energy regulator).

So if your current tariff ends within the next 12 months, the calculation must use the cost of the supplier's standard tariff for any time after your current deal ceases.

Therefore any savings are based on this which is why a new tariff with higher unit costs saves money as the cost of the standard tariff is extremely high for most suppliers.

I have been with EDF for a number of years for both gas and electricity and have always been very happy with them.

Over the past few months I have switched to different tariffs within EDF for gas, but they don't seem to be very competitive for electricity.

I keep holding off switching away from them in the hope that they will introduce a good electricity tariff, but it doesn't look very likely.

I keep doing comparisons and some say I could say £80+ per annum, but when I actually look at the unit rate and standing charge I simply can't see that they are much cheaper than EDF.

    It is all very confusing:(
