Tesco for Avios?

Big long explanation that you can skip if you like!

I've worked out I can get above 1p value for Avios, which means when I've worked out how my spending works I'm better off with a BA Amex card rather than the £25 a year 1.25% one I've been using.

I also have a Capital One card for 0.5% cashback on other purchases - where they don't take Amex.

It's really just for fun I'm trying to get a little bit more value from it... there's really no huge savings to make but I get a lot of satisfaction from finding the best way to do it.

So I'm considering a Tesco card. I have one already and I didn't realise I get 5 points for a £4 Tesco spend. That matches my Amex card but since I can turn Tesco points into Avios at a higher rate then I'll start using that for my Tesco spend. My understanding is that I can exchange for Avios at a greater value than 1:1.

My question is about the 1 tesco clubcard point per £8 spend. I'm trying to work out if I should just abandon the Capital One card and use the Tesco and BA Amex and that's all (I have a Clarity for overseas too).

----

How much in Avios points is a £1 spend on a Tesco clubcard worth, assuming it's not spent in Tesco, and I wait until they do the best exchange offer?

Of the 5 points for a £4 spend, you'd get 4 of those anyway (just via your regular Clubcard). You're only getting 1 point per £4 on the credit card.

I used to be an avid Avios collector with a similar spread of cards. The best course of action to collect maximum Avios is:

    - Use a BA Amex and normal Clubcard (non-credit) in Tesco
    - Use a BA Amex where you can elsewhere
    - Use your Tesco Credit Card where you can't

The following calculations show you why:

    You get:
    Clubcard: 1 point / £1
Club CC (Tesco): 5 point / £4 (including 4 from Clubcard)
    Club CC (other): 1 point / £8

    Tesco: 600 / 250 points (2.4 avios / point)

    BA Amex: 1 avios / £1

    Avios.com: 1100 avios / £31 (35.48 avios / £1)

£100 shop in Tesco w/ Amex and normal Clubcard (non-credit)
    Clubcard: 100 points = 240 avios
    Amex : 100 avios
    Total : 340 avios

£100 shop in Tesco w/ Club CC
    Club CC : 125 points = 300 avios

£100 shop elsewhere (you can only get one of the following)
    Amex : 100 avios
    Club CC : 12.5 = 29.76 avios
    0.5% : £0.50 = 17.74 avios
    1.25% : £1.25 = 44.35 avios
