15 yr old debt?

I am totally lost at the moment as I have been contacted by a debt recovery company regarding a debt I have not heard from in 15 years,
The first I learned about this was a phone call on my mobile last week.
I have lived in my home for over 15 years and had the same landline number for 18 years.
I have during that time had loans from the bank, store cards and store credit, car loans, All of which have been paid on time or in full before due dates.
Circumstances got tight a few years ago when things changed and I cancelled a credit card off and have been paying it down since while interests is still being added.
I have been told by the debt company that they can take goods to cover the debt.
the original debt i think was about £2,500 and know it was only the 1 debt but they tell me there are 2 with the same company, 1 is nearly £6,000 the other nearly £2,000
I have always kept a check on my credit file and nothing has ever shown from this company, I have never ignored letters as I always try to deal with things.
I am not working and a full time carer.
I am behind with my rent due to bedroom tax recently.
Any advice as I am unable to deal with this at the moment.

What exactly are the debts they are chasing you for? Who, when, how much?0

It was an old TSB loan that started it off as I was paid a day late and charged by the bank as not enough in to cover it, the bank recalled the loan money and charged for doing so which ended up the loan not getting paid, this was around 1997/8
global debt wrote to me today i called to find out what it was,
I don't know how they are claiming the amounts they are but they are trying to make out they have been writing to me for the past 15 years at my address and i am ignoring there letters which is a lie.
Having had a heart attack a while back I sure don't need this stress.0 -
Statute bared then.

I phoned today when they wrote to me as I couldn't believe someone was trying to say I owed so much without me being aware of it, They told me I have to pay it as they claimed I have refused to reply but I honestly didn't receive any letters from them.0

If they have written to you, stop phoning, they can talk **** on the phone and make empty threats.
Print the statute barred link letter in fermis link, fermi is the board guru on debts and send it by certified post which is free at the post office.
Let us know what they reply with, if they phone tell them to write or do one.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
They phoned me last week for the first time in over 15 years wouldn't tell me anything so told them to write and i received the letter today,
I will print it off and send it back with their letter.0 -
They usually reply with invented payments which you then ignore until they give up.I do Contracts, all day every day.0

Debt collectors lie through their teeth on the phone.
No matter, would not make a difference if they sent a letter every day of the entire 15 years. IT would STILL be statute barred.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
