Expedia - make date changes to package deal

I am currently in a battle with Expedia as I have purchased a hotel/flight package to New York. I need to change date by a week but keep the same hotel & airline. Expedia want me to pay £734 extra for the hotel (flight is the same price) for the new dates despite advertising the package on their website for exactly the same price I have paid.
Their explanation is that as soon as you cancel & re book the flight (with a £400 airline charge) the hotel is no longer part of a package deal but separate hotel booking & is a priced accordingly. The the only answer I can get from them is that is the hotel's pricing policy not their's.
Has anyone else come across this? I am wasting my time fighting it?

What were the terms of the booking re changes?

You may be fortunate, some would not allow any changes at all.

The problem seems to be that you purchased non refundable flights - if you want to change them you can't - in effect you will be purchasing new ones.
  • Expedia do sell hotel rooms that are non-refundable and cannot be changed or cancelled so that may be the problem. It does tell you when you're booking if this is the case. You need to read your confirmation etc and check your flight and hotel rules.
