Hitch-hikers

I have picked up hitch hikers in the Highlands simply because it may be hours before any public transport option comes along (if it's available at all). And a couple of times I've had lifts when I've climbed a mountain and come down miles away from my starting point and faced a long walk back along a hard road. I can't say I wouldn't offer a hitcher a lift now I live in the West Midlands but it's certainly less likely.0

I have seen a couple in the last few weeks, but both holding a set of trade plates.
I haven't seen anyone without a set of trade plates for a long time hitching.0 -
I can't as my companies car policy forbids it for insurance reasons (they are big enough to self insure to a certain level so they can set whatever rules they like) I am sure many other companies do similar.0

I often pick up hitch hikers, and often offer lifts to people walking when the rain is lashing
Im female
Only weird one I had was when i stopped for a guy with a white stick, As we were chatting he casually let slip his hobby was mountain climbing, and the white stick was to ensure he did get a lift0 -
I saw a couple of skinheads hitching once on the way home from work. One was stood at the kerb with his thumb out while his mate was practicing throwing a knife into a tree. I dare say they had a long wait.0

get a lot of them around cornwall, especially in the summer months, hav given a few a lift, but I don't really drive that far, so if they are hoping to get out the county with me they are !!!!!! out of luck.
but with things like liftshare and the like where you can get a lift across the country for £10 - £20 hitching seems kind of pointless.0 -
I've given trade plate boys a lift a few times, I would be to scared to pick up a women for fear of being accused of something, not worth the risk I think!0

See them sometimes around here and will usually stop if I'm on my own in the car, especially if the weather's bad.
A couple of them are local "bad boys" who we were warned to steer clear of when we moved into the area. As far as I'm concerned, an occasional lift if I'm going their way anyway is cheap insurance0 -
My father has a rule that he will always try and stop for a hitchhiker in military uniform - paying back for his days as an erk in the 60s getting back to base. I told myself when I got my own car, I would follow that rule. I've never had occasion to yet.
I don't think I've seen any hitchhiker anywhere in the last 10 years.I need to think of something new here...0 -
I've given a few lifts over the years.
I was told the trade plate boys get well paid for their travel so its a p*** take to hitch hike.0
