Help-removed washing machine now no water

Help,
I am moving out and I got a removal man who disconnected and removed the washing machine this was last night, but about midday today all the taps in the house stopped running. I CALLED HIM AND HE DIRECTED ME TO A SMALL BLUE TAP which he said after turning would get the water flowing after an hour and a haf...well still n no luck. I am in a house share and the others are not pleased.

  • The cold water main comes up from the floor and there should be a stop tap near the floor. If this stop tap is on, then there should be water to the taps on the pipework before the washing machine connection - normally the kitchen cold tap.

If this blue tap (ie an isolation valve) is before all the others on the pipe run, and you have turned it on, and there is no water, then the valve is stuck.

In any case, the hot and cold supplies are separate and if one is not working then the other would not necessaruly stop. Trace some pipework from the hot warer tank, cold water cisturns etc to see what is working. Also are the toilet cisturns filling up?

An alternative may be an airlock in the system, but you would need to provide more details

    Hello,
I am so pleased. Just went to have a look and the cold water in the kitchen is running, Iam not absolutely sure this went off but Ithink it did. The water cisterns are not running, infact only this cold water tap is running in the whole house. Does this help at all. Ftill no hot water anywhere
  • You need to trace your cold water main from where it comes into the property.

If the kitchen tap is the first outlet on the pipe run and then you need to see where the pipe goes afterwards and what is not working.

If the kitchen tap is working then the problem is after this.

If the washing machine connector is directly after the kitchen tap, and this is 'in line' with the pipe - ie if this is turned off then it stops the water flow to the following pipework, then this is your problem. Check if you are really turning it on and off. The water main should be really cold before this blue valve and the same after it. If it is warmer after this valve, then water is not getting through.

Check for any other valves on the pipe which the guy may have truned off

checked but both seem equally cold, do the taps under the kitchen sink have anything to do with it. As I saw him go there at some point
