Average balance over 2 weeks would be £1000 if not paid of instantly, but worst case scenario would be £1000. Is the calculation not right?
27p a day? (I just used an online calc)0 -

I'll try again..,you take £250 on day one. You take another £250 on day four. And another £250 on day eight. And the last £250 on day eleven.
Now what's the average balance on the account over the 14 days?
You shouldn't need an "online calc" for that!0 -
Ah ok I see what you mean, take it when I need it, lol cheers!0

No problems in Hong Kong. I'm in Hong Kong now. Most "normal" machines I have tried don't charge.
This time, on arrival, I used a "citibank" machine in the arrivals hall.
Whatever card/machine you use, no getting away from a relatively miserable exchange rate at the moment: £1=HK$11. I've had a few mediocre meals recently which cost me more than they would in London.0 -
hi sorry to bump this, but just wanted to check something.
so im in hong kong now and made a purchase from uniqlo with my halifax clarity card and it doesnt add up. Something is wrong here.
uniqlo purchase $1341.50 hk dollars
halifax charged £127.71
excange rate $10.5 to the pound?
now that cant be right as its been $11 minimum today, even $11.18 right now. Withdrawing cash i get the correct rate, but purchases seems to be worse??
i paid my hotel bill using my santander card and that seems to be right, is there and issue with the clarity card or uniqlo? i asked for everything to be done in hk dollars and get receipts in hk dollars0 -
When you expand the transaction on your on-line account, does it show a cost in HKD, or is there only the amount in GBP?
If the latter then you have been hit with DCC. You should be able to get this fixed, but have a look at the post I made a few minutes ago detailing my experience trying to do that yesterday.0 -
Yes, you beat me to it. Sadly DCC is alive and well in Hong Kong. Having seen the price in HKD, the terminal will often offer you a price in GBP.
You should get a choice (and then choose HKD). Consider disputing the transaction to the extent of the difference - it seems you have the required evidence that you did everything right (you do still have the uniqlo receipt showing HKD?)
Take a look at this thread:

yes i have the receipts all showing hkd, will have to call them up again once the payment has been processed. its more about principles than the £5 difference
thanks0 -
guy thanks for all the help, it looks like i eagerly jumped the gun as the pending amount was higher than the actual statement amount owed. so it looks like i was charged at the correct amount. lesson learnt!0
