Barclays Visa Debit Card in Europe (Prague)

Just a query my parents are going on a city break to Prague end of Oct - flights are booked however the hotel they want to reserve says that they pay at the hotel's reception (not sure if this is normal procedure)?! Anyway the question I have is will my parents be able to pay using their Barclays Visa Debit Card easily enough without any problems/charges etc? I apologise in advance if this is a really daft question lol but i'm clueless!

Ask the hotel. But there will certainly be a charge (exchange rate weighting). And knowing Barclays, plenty of thinks could go wrong.

barclays will charge you. I think its about 2.75%

and if they withdraw cash from a cash machine whilst they are away it is 2.75 plus a 2% (min £1.50 max £4.50) in fees as well!!

I am trying to get my brother to change his account from barclays as they have made a fortune out of him this year, he is away in teh navy and whenever he uses his card it charges him this.

If your parents can get them to have an account with nationwide they dont charge.

Barclays are in a global network, whereby if you use a machine within the network you do not have to pay the additional fee. More details on their website.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Opened a Nationwide account before we went away. Got a Visa credit card (£6500 limit) and loaded the current account so we could use the debit card for withdrawals. No problems anywhere
Got great exchange rates and no charges.
