Problem with Nationwide Upgrade

My husband has a Nationwide ordinary FlexAccount that he would like to upgrade to a FlexDirect account. However, when he clicks the upgrade button he gets the message
I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems accessing our account upgrade services at this time.
We believe the problem you may be experiencing is a compatibility issue with the operating system, device and browser combination you are using to access our website
Has anyone else had this problem?
I upgraded my account via my laptop last year with no problems at all.
We have tried using his Apple laptop and two other laptops that use 'Windows', but all give the same message.
Any help would be appreciated.

Using Apple should, resolve any issuesas it is a different os.
Have you tried using chrome or Firefox instead of explorer or vice versa?
By upgrading he is obviously missing out on a switching incentive. If you refer him, or vice versa, and you have a nationwide current account, then you both can get £100 so long as you fulfil some simp,e criteria. It's normally fairly simple, to set up a donor account at another bank so not too difficult.0 -

My husband uses 'Safari', but still can't upgrade.
I had thought about referral, however, my husband wants to keep his original account number and I presumed that if I referred him he would get a new account number?
He has been in touch with Nationwide, who say they have rectified the problem, however it still exists.
I have just read Nationwide's t&c's - and referral will close his old account and a minimum of two Direct Debits must also be transferred as part of the switch and he doesn't have any direct debits. He just wants the account for the 5% interest and regular saver.0 -
Have you tried in-branch as they will either get it to work or refer it elsewhere.
DDs are easy to generate - eBay and PayPal are easy to setup plus a donor account can be setup in minutes. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

My husband is not able to get to a branch office (he is ill and mainly house-bound). All he wants to do is upgrade his Flex account. It should be easy, but is proving very difficult. He cannot speak on the telephone for long (due to his illness). He could have upgraded his account on the telephone, but as I already said he cannot speak for long and the call centre operative said the upgrade by phone would take 20/30 minutes.
Internet banking is very easy for him.
He has decided to give up:(0
