Hi,
iam looking to open an current account for my 16 year old brother. Can u lovely people help....
Which banks are offering incentives. I have searched on their websites but they dont list any freebies they offer. iam not interested in interst rates as the account will only have a small balance on it
We have most of the major banks near us eg natwest, lloyds, halifax, barclays etc. So iam looking to open a current account with a decent freebie!!!!
thanks in advance

Freebies are normally only given to students or those 18+ opening a full bank account or young children opening their first saving account. Not for 16 year olds.0

I got some freebies form Natwest when i opened their Solo Cashcard thing, i got 1 or 2 free cds from the chart, i don't know whether they still do that any more tho!
I actually rarely see stuff for mid teens now, it is all for the CTFs and for the uni goers.

You want to go for the current account offering the most interest and best features. Consider Lloyds TSB Under-19 account which pays 3.55%... with cheque book/debit card/weekly mobile txt balances/statements with internet banking and no minimum monthly income for those 16 and over. They may offer a freebie... you will have to ask!
For a branch savings account consider Nationwide's smart account at 5% with link cash card.0 -
thanks to you guys for the very useful info. With regards to interst rates we are not so bothered as the amount in the account will be minimal for the nect few years. cheers0

i went to halifax online as they had freebies. They ring you back immediately but you have to go in bank to get it set up still & then i was told i have to wait for them to send me application forms..they didnt .they said i have to go through prosess all over again so i went to nationwide(more efficient but free vouchers absoloutly rubbish)0

The electron card is completely useless. Natwest offer a solo card, which is accepted much more widely and can be used online.0 -

?
I have an Electron card and find its widely accepted, on and offline.
BTW, those online retailers that dont list Electron, put it through as Visa and 9 times out of 10 it goes through.0 -
I opened up a child's savings account with Halifax and their freebie was a money saving box which you can only open with the card supplied (so brothers and sisters can't help themselves!) and a calculator.
