WiFi Printer £39.95 Staples

Options
I have justbought the Lexmark X4550 WiFi Printer from Staples for £39.95. Already discounted down to 69.95 from £99.95, got voucher from "the computer active ultimate guide to wireless home networking" magazine from WH Smith (£5.99) and got another £30 off. Offer ends 20 Sept.

Many thanks to the OP. I need to get my mother-in-law a printer and this looks like a great bargain.

I have never used Lexmark printers before. Anybody had any experience with them?

I calculated the price of the ink for this printer and was surprised to see it's only 7p/page (5%) which is better than Canon. Mind you Lexmark also have a reputation for drying out, requiring new cartridges.

  • I agree, my first printer was a Lexmark and it was cheaper to buy a new printer than to buy the ink.

Not sure about the home refill kit's, they may make it cheaper if you can use them.

Tried to pick this up today but local Staples manager knew nothing of the offer and said the printer was already discounted by £30 and implied that this was just an advert. Very misleading advert if you ask me. He was unable to contact head office to confirm as it was several seconds past 5 o'clock but he took my details and said he would let me know.

Looks like I wasted both my time and money (after buying the magazine from WH Smith).

I will post back here if I get any kind of result.
  • Exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday.
After a frank exchange of views (very polite) the sales manager said he would ring head office and get back to me. I did point out that as it was a reader offer it must be over and above the in store reduction which was available to everyone.
Got a call back in the afternoon - "Have spoken to head office, and no problem at all madam. We will put one aside for you."
I picked up the printer last night - it cost me £39.99.:D

Terrible for the environment I know , but for a laser or ink jet printer over the past couple of years I have never paid more than £30. When they run out of ink I just throw them away and get a better new one

Don't worry, someone will find it on the dump & try & make shelter out of it & then fill it full of weirdos.

Went back to Staples today having not had the promised phone call.

After a call to head office, some polite discussion with the store manager about the printer and the misleading terms of the offer in the magazine as well as expressing my disappointment at having wasted time on two trips to the store, the manager very kindly agreed to sell the printer for £39.99!
    :j
I am very pleased at this splendid example of customer service and my mother-in-law is very pleased with her new printer for such a bargain price, although she can't use it until I have sorted out broadband and a free laptop. Carphone Warehouse/AOL offer here I come!

Many thanks again to the OP.
