Sounds like a good deal, are the Lexmark catridges still expensive?

    Carts cost around £15ish

Beware this printer, if it is like my 5470 may even know how many times you go to the bog. :rolleyes2

Lexmark seem to have gone down the Epson route with chipped? cartridges, and taken it a few big brother steps further.

Mine announces printer actions in an American male voice.

Tells you that the ink is running out before it is, and invites you to buy from them. Still prints when pronounced empty and I guess that there is still 1 to 2 ml left out of 10 for starter black , 20 for larger one. Colours have around 3ml of each colour to start. Each time you look at cartridges it does a head alignment and uses a lot of ink, not very Green.

If you refill a cartridge it puts up "Warranty invalidated, for using "non" Lexmark ink" on the printer lcd.
Asks where you bought lexmark cartridge containing not their ink?
Presumaby does the same with "re-manufactured" cartridges asking where "counterfeit" was bought.
You can get round this by frequently topping up, but that does not show on the ink levels on the computer, continuously reminding to buy a replacement from them.

As the only damage compatible ink could do will be to the cartridge, not the printer itself, it will be interesting to see this invalidation challenged in court. ;)

That aside a nice price for a WiFi all in one, Brother ones probably better deal.

  • Staples now offer this for £59.99 (in store leaflet price), so with the discount its £29.99.
And if you are lucky enough to have a clearance Jessops near you, you might find the larger black cartridge (no 34) reduced from £18.99 to just over £5.
I've picked up several in the last couple of weeks.

Thanks for the tip about the print cartridges. I will have a look when I am next near Jessops.

As for the £30 off, the end date for the promotion in the magazine is 20th Sept so unless there are any 24 hour Staples I don't think anybody is going to be able to take advantage of the possible £29.99 price. That would have been a cracking deal.

  • I don't believe it - I've only just read this now and the £30.00 offer finished yesterday

Anyone know of any other offers/discount etc in Staples.

    Cheers:beer:

If you want a basic printer just for printing text ie college then argos were doing a HP 1018 laser printer for 39.99. It came with a 1000 page toner and costs about £34 for a 4000 page toner when it runs out.

Both myself, OH, DS and DD use it for school/college work and we are still on the original toner six months later.

The old Lexmark we had was awful, needed a new cartridge every 6-8 weeks which cost £16 each.
30th June 2021 completely debt free…. Downsized, reduced working hours and living the dream.
  • Don't know about any in Staples, but I saw this one earlier today and thought it was a bargain for £39.99 delivered as you get high capacity inks as standard instead of the normal low capacity "starter" cartridges most printers come with nowadays.

At this price I can just buy another printer when the inks run out and I'll still save money :-)
