This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning all,
Nice bright day here but very cold with a very slight possibility of snow :j I hope we get even a little bit as the clients at work would love it.
Off to work today and Thursdays are always a good day with a really funny lot of clients.
Evie is doing well, not a great night again she has taken to standing on the window cill and barking at passing car lights :rotfl:
Dinner tonight will be something and chips will go and look in the freezer after this, I also have my shopping being delivered.
Right better get on have good days all xx

Morning everyone. Thanks for the thread RR.
It's so much brighter in the mornings, it's so good to watch the dawn coming up. I had a really restless night, most unlike me, think it's the sugar / carb withdrawal hitting in. This could be the tough day!
Yesterday was so wet again, and cold enough for me to put on the wood burner and I don't give in easily when I'm on my own. Today I have to do some online banking and, if the weather holds, clear up the garden (again) as the lawn is littered with bits of the spruce tree and bushes. The winds have been fierce again.
I've just looked out of the window to see a field full of grazing geese never a day without wildlife.
I hope everyone has a good day.0 -
Thank you RR for starting us off. I am sure Evie will settle soon. She probably finds it exciting watching the cars go by.
A lovely bright morning here at the moment. Blue sky, the bin men have just been so everything must be alright with the world.
We have to pick up our prescriptions this morning and then off to see Sister and BIL. They are also doing the blood sugar diet and sound to be doing well. My sister and I very often compare what we are doing for the evening meal. I have to put some minced steak and onion into the slow cooker shortly. We have numerous veg but I also give DGD1 her own little ramekin of baby new potatoes so she doesn't miss out.
I can't believe it is Thursday again, I think we probably have 2 Thursdays in a week:)
Lainey sorry the news wasn't more encouraging for dear Bill, but at least you will be able to take him out and hopefully keep him pain free.
Hester, have you met yourself coming back yet:):) you must be exhausted by the end of the week.
Have a good day all

Morning all. Thanks RR for starting us off. Sounds like Evie is making her presence heard!
A lovely start here and the sun is forecast to last most of the day. The dreaded snow is due to return through the night apparently. That'll make the school run fun again. Poor DD was slithering all over trying to drive back up here yesterday morning.
Shopping day today but we don't seem to need much, mostly f & v and dairy. So will settle on Sainsbob's I think and just stick to my list! Then over to Iceland as I have a till spit from last week for a free wood fired pizza. Mr TA and the DGDs are rather partial to those so will get a couple more and stock up on them.
Have a nice day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now using up some leave, so he’s having a lie-in. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.
Now light, wet underfoot but not raining, no frost, we had several loads of hail/sleet and then rain yesterday, it’s much brighter and clearer today, but the wind is bitter. Now we have sunshine so looking better already.
Dinner last night was hunters chicken, potato bake, carrots and broccoli – all eaten and enjoyed, menfolk had second helpings of the potato bake, so no LO’s, but it’s better eaten the day it’s made as it dries out if you re-heat it. Tonight I’m not sure what we will be eating, as I menu planned to today and couldn’t think what to have, so today’s dinner is blank – I’ll be checking the outside freezer, and will then decide from there what we will be eating, I really don’t want to buy anything, so it may turn out to be a strange mixture. I do have plenty of potatoes, normal, jacket and new, several different types of pasta, various pasta sauces, and all the normal store cupboard items, I’m running short of meat/fish in the freezers, so that’s where I need to check and start to build the stocks back up, I will be addressing this when I do my food shop tomorrow, I’ll also be doing a menu plan today.
Work was steady yesterday and a customer who I had seen the day before who didn’t have the relevant information with them came back and I was able to sit with them and get them sorted.
Today will be full of all the normal chores and “to do” list.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone,
Dry here at the moment but cold, heating has kicked in.
Work today but then it's the weekend for me, hope to pop over to the yard afterwards so tea will be something quick, probably something vegetarian from the freezer, W@itrose do several nice meals including Nut Wellington which is delic and handy when time is tight.
RR sounds like little Evie is settling in well and now some of her personality is coming out
Have a good day all, take care x0 -
Good morning everyone, thank you for starting today's thread.
I have slept a bit better, am feeling that I should not post about tiredness as it must be getting boring for others so I will try not to.,
I am so very cross with myself. I bought a gift for my friend, from two of us, and as I had several bags to carry, looped the handle of tge canvas bag it was in to my laptop trolley bag. I looped it round several times but it came u done and as the trolley was behind me, did not see that it had dropped and dragged on the ground. The pretty bag it was in is abraded, and tge packaging of the actual gift has been damaged at one end. I can go and buy pretty wrapping paper but nothing will fix the actual packaging. The only upside is that friend is desperately unhandy and had asked me to make a small thing for which I had no suitable fabric and the remains of my canvas bag will do for that.
Onwards and upwards, must get some washing done and out on the line, looks as though it might dry today, yesterday was cold, windy and wet.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning :hello:

redruby Scampi's one for car lights too – never used to bother him but it does now. He goes crazy - snarling, barking, spinning, yanking. We've given up taking him for a walk in the dark for now, his evening walk is at 4.30pm
We didn't go out yesterday morning, Scampi's fine with rain now but still hates strong wind, he started barking and growling at it through the closed window so there was no way I was taking him out in itI had to go out into the garden a couple of times and anchor a couple of things down and clear up the contents of the recycling box, they'd been blown around the garden.
I've sown my seeds, very tidy I was too – I didn't spill a single crumb of compost on the carpet
Today I need hoover the dried mud off the carpets – I forgot to shut the gate in the kitchen/hall doorway when Scampi went outside, he came in and traipsed mud everywhereAlso need to put a load of towels on to wash and sew up a split seam on a pair of trousers. The shopping's coming late morning, once that's put away I'll have lunch then play with yarn – I have an idea for a blanket, trouble is I'm no designer so my ideas don't usually translate well from my brain to my hook
I'll have a go anyway and see how it turns out.

Morning all,
A flurry of messages last night from hubby and Youngest which are carrying on this morning.
The lads at work went out last night for a curry as the site foreman is leaving. All were invited except hubby and Youngest. I'm not surprised really as hubby isn't well liked or respected by many for his big mouth and outspoken views. I've explained to Youngest that he wasn't invited because of his Dad and told him not to take it to heart.
Grandson is here, Happy enough to entertain himself with his technology and the dogs are as far away from him as possible.
Onwards and forwards

Good Morning everyone ,bright and sunny here but still a chilly wind blowing so not nice enough to get too excited about spring just yet.Golly it was bitter yesterday I know that I poked my head over the threshold for about 5 seconds and that was enough for me.:)
This morning I have an appointment to see a very nice lady at a different bank to my normal one .
My usual bank has decided in its wisdom that it has closed all local branches and I either have to travel into Chatham, or Gillingham for banking .
Not a great idea or worse still queue up with the other dozen or so people at our local post office which always has a queue of no less than 10-12 folk waiting to be served by one very overworked assistant.
Last week I tried to get a ten pound note changed up in the local NatWest and was told by a very snooty lady that 'Oh we don't do that service anymore unless you are a customer .(not changing to that bank, her manners put me off for a start ,especially as I had queued for 10 minutes in there as well).
Barclays where I do have a small account for holiday savings was chockablock, so I asked in Lloyds and the lady was very helpful.
I explained I needed change to give my three DGS some cash each and she was very polite and helpful.
After I told he about the rudeness of the NatWest assistant she asked where I banked.I told her ,well online, as the local branches have closed
So today I am hoping to switch banks to a bank with real human beings that actually talk to you as a customer .Fingers crossed after I have my appointment the switch over will be fairly easy.
I wonder at times about how the banks seem to view customers ,do they really want to custom, or are we a petty inconvenience (apart from the money of course ).
Ok I am not a person with millions in the bank (far from it) but its all the ordinary small customers that made the banks so powerful.I sometimes think that the big banks ,like the supermarkets have forgotten who actually put them there in the first place .
I was married and 24 before I had a bank account(although I did have a savings account from an early age )
Before the banks got a grip on the population we all managed fairly well with our limited resources, and back in the early 1960s banks were falling over themselves to get a customer.
Suddenly it seems they really don't care very much for the little people anymore.Strangely enough the bank I am going to see today used to be the TSB which was the first account I ever had back in the 1960s Its now called Lloyds but the attitude (at least at my local branch ) seems to be the same .They are there to help the people that walk through the door and not treat them so superciliously
Fingers crossed all will be well:) Courtesy costs nothing I believe, and depending on how I get on this morning I will possibly change my bank for one that remembers who is the customer and who is the 'shopkeeper' IYSWIM.
How do the rest of you find banks attitudes ? good ,bad or totally indifferent to the customers.
I'll let you know how I get on:):)
Another week almost gone, and we will soon have Easter on us again, hardly seems five minutes since Christmas .DGS Ben is coming home for his break next week and I'm looking forward to getting my 'film buddy' home again. My eldest DGS Danny texted me last night to ask me out to dinner this saturday night with his young lady so I shall be getting all dolled up for a night on the tiles with the pair of them:):) He has been working away in eastern europe so will be telling me all about that no doubt. His g/f is a producer on a Music channel on TV so she will have lots of chat as well.
Right time for a cuppa
Hope those who are having a birthday have a good day and <<hugs>> if you are feeling down or sad
Cheers chums JackieO xxx0 -
JackieO, it's the same down here in Birchington, we will only have one building society (NW) left by June, none of whom I banked with anyway. There were reports this week of the cash machines running dry. we live in an area of quite an elderly population, some of which don't internet bank.
Cold and bright down here in the coast, washing on the line blowing well.
Have a good day allCarolbee0
