Cheap wooden kitchen worktops/need to overhaul!

Was considering getting somebody to make me some cheap wooden worktops - wouldn't mind if they're made from cheaper wood as they only really need to last a couple of years -

Need to overhaul the VERY old kitchen in my newly bought house - thought that having a shelf top kitchen would minimise cost and only have cupboards underneath (think hanging pots/pans would be nice etc and save room!)

Or does anyone have any very simple but money saving ideas?!:)
so far....Radox Waterproof book...10 Business cards (ideal for new pad!)...Fabric samples...Shower timer...Flush saver...Seeds ahoy...

If you only need it for a couple years why not try wickes. I think you can get about 2m for £50/60. Homebase do 3m for around £100. Won't last forever but it should do the job
