my father and I have spent a lot of money on credit cards and loans on credit cards dating back to 1990
Can we claim anything back from them
how would I know we have been charged PPI and what info do the banks needs for us to claim money back.

PPI would be featured on all your statements.
You don't claim money back. You complain and give your reasons as to why you were missold the PPI.0 -

PPI would be on every single statement for a credit card where you didn't pay it off in full - easy check, look at the statements, if it wasn't there back in the day then you weren't charged anything.
If you are talking about accounts back in 1990, unless they were closed in the last 6 years unless you have your own records, there is a fair chance the bank will have deleted their records in line with the DPA.
You are coming across like a claims management company though, trying to "claim money" when you don't even know if you had PPI let alone any valid complaint reasons.
Look at your old records, ring the banks in question, if neither have any records, your complaint is a non-starterSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I'm trying to find out if a credit card I had some years ago operated through CitiFinancial had PPI. I have requested the information and/or copies of past statements and at their request provided proof of address and identity, they now say they want a £10 fee to proceed with my request. Is this correct? I thought ( if there was a charge) it was limited to £1?

Yes. Requests under data protection cost £10.I thought ( if there was a charge) it was limited to £1?
The £1 method only supplies the credit agreement and it only applies where the credit facility is still active. Your wording suggests this is an old account that is no longer active.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. The £1 charge is for a copy of the original agreement, which is only available if the account is still open.
The charge is not "limited" in any way. It's not free unless the Bank voluntarily waives the fee.0
